The Relationship between Breakfast Consumption and Study Concentration in Adolescents at SMPN 06 Jambi City

Abstract

Breakfast has an important role for school children aged 6-12 years, namely to fulfill nutrition in the morning, where children go to school and have very busy activities at school. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between breakfast consumption and learning concentration in adolescents at SMPN 06 Jambi City. This research was conducted at SMPN 06 Jambi City in May 2024. This research design is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design, data collection by filling out a questionnaire. The number of samples taken was 80 respondents. Data analysis using Univariate and Bivariate analysis using the spearman correlation test to determine the relationship between the independent variable (breakfast consumption) and the dependent variable (learning concentration). Based on the data obtained from the research questionnaire, the percentage of breakfast consumption description was 51 people (63.8%) in the sufficient category and there were 29 people (36.3%) in the insufficient category. For the percentage of learning concentration there are 38 people (47.5%) in the category of good concentration and there are 42 people (52.5%) with the category of no concentration. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between breakfast consumption and learning concentration with a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05) and a value of r = 0.511. It can be concluded that if you rarely have breakfast, you have a greater risk of experiencing learning concentration problems in adolescents.
